Branch 104 Minutes

14 September 2020

Meeting for September was conducted via online meeting application,, and was hosted by S/M Branch President Len Barrett. Following Shipmates checked in and participated in the meeting: Rex Faubion, Don Felthouse, Jim Jones, Doug Johnson, John Johnson, Ernie LaChapelle, Russ Peters, Leanne Pollard, Tom Shriver, Mark Thompson, Jim Wallace, Richard Wilson, RPNW Bill Hall, RPNW elect Danny Hunt, PRPNW Peg Burke, Paul Rogers-Pres. Branch 174, Sequim and prospective mbr Rokky Glaittli.

1913 - Opening Prayer, Pledge of Allegiance, and Preamble. The minutes were called and approved as previously submitted.

Committee Reports:

Legislative: S/M Barrett reported that the Veterans Legislative Coalition is active. First meeting was held on 11 SEP via zoom. S/M Barrett, Faubion, and Nabors attended. Meeting was chaired by S/M Fugich. S/M Fugich was re-elected to chairman of the VLC. S/M Ryan Nabors, who is the FRA Regional Legislative Representative, has volunteered to be the alternate on the VLC representing the FRA.

Youth Activities: NTR. Americanism/Patriotism: S/M Barrett as the A/P Chairman passed that S/M LaChapelle is doing an excellent job in getting the essay contest information into schools in the South Sound area through PEACHJAR. PEACHJAR is an online system utilized by school systems in the area to notify students of scholarship opportunities. Theme for this year’s essay contest is “The Bill of Rights and me.” Also discussed getting the word to all the JROTC units in the area.

Membership: 95 members in good standing. One honorary member Slade Gorton passed. Following members “Ready to Renew” (dues are up either 30 SEP or 31 OCT): Allen, Casto, Cruz, Eller, Jaeger, Kincaid, and Travis. Motion was made by S/M Faubion to pay dues for S/M Casto. S/M Casto is only regularly attending member in Branch 104 that served in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Motion passed. It was further discussed, and members decided to donate and pay for S/M Casto’s Life Membership.

Public Relations: Newsletter. Website up-to-date. Facebook page is active.

Finance and Audit: Looking good. One check still outstanding from Americanism Essay contest awards.

Health and Welfare: Binnacle list: S/M Eller, family of S/M Ramirez.

Service Officer: NTR

VAVS: S/M Felthouse advised no updates. He is awaiting his annual review from Volunteer Services at American Lake. No new need requests. Volunteers returning to American Lake still on hold. No update on flu shots


• FRA Membership Newsletter. Total membership nationwide is currently at levels post war Korea. Even though we are small in number we can still make a difference nationally and locally. Stay actively involved.

• Installation of new Regional President scheduled for meeting in October.

• RPNW (Elect) Danny Hunt, PRPNW and NW Region Secretary Peg Burke, Paul Rogers - Pres Branch 174, Sequim, WA and Rokky Glaittli, prospective new member.

Next regularly scheduled meeting will be at 1900 on 12 OCT 2020.
